FAQs
What is play-based therapy?
Fun, Fun, Fun! Children learn best during engaging and motivating activities making it more meaningful to them. When learning through play, we improve a child's memory, attention, and mental shifting. Play is natural to children and can happen anywhere! Building upon what a child already knows in familiar activities allows for more risk-taking because of how comfortable they are with a particular play scenario.
We follow a child's lead while embedding goals into the activities. There is thought and purpose behind what we say and do. And the amazing part is we can use what is already in the home to show parents how to carry over goals to best support the child.
Why private speech therapy?
There are so many reasons for why private speech therapy is a wonderful option.
1. First, unlike school-based services, there are no academic standards a child needs to meet in order to qualify for speech-language therapy. Whether a deficit is mild or severe, it can be addressed in private therapy.
2. In-home speech therapy is provided on a 1:1 basis, with the therapist devoting the entire session to your child as opposed to school-based therapy, which is typically in groups of 2-4 children.
3. Private therapy involves the family in real-time, giving caregivers the ability to ask questions, observe activities and learn how to carry over skills in the home. And with consistency, children make faster progress.
4. For those children who do receive school-based services, private therapy is often a great supplement, allowing for more practice of goals as well as achieving faster progress.
Do you accept insurance?
At this time we solely operate as a private pay practice and do not participate in any insurance plans.
Dealing with the insurance process demands significant time and effort, and we prefer channeling our resources towards your child's therapeutic goals. Our aim is to make decisions about your child's therapy services in partnership with you, avoiding influence from insurance companies unfamiliar with your child's specific needs.
How do I know if my child needs speech therapy?
If you are here, your gut instinct may be telling you something. As parents/caregivers we are in tune with our child's wants and needs. It is never too early to investigate if you feel your child is not hitting their developmental milestones.
